The year 2090 is when all conflicts in the world are being fought with massive war machines known as Wanzers. Huffman Island, the only location where there is Oceania Cooperative Union (O.C.U.) as well as the Unified Continental States (U.C.S.) have a shared land border that which is the center of tension.

A O.C.U. reconnaissance unit headed by Captain Royd Clive is tasked to study the location of a U.C.S. munitions plant. The plant is attacked by U.C.S. Wanzers. This triggers a chain of events that sends all of the island into conflict. Royd's fiancee, Lieutenant Karen Meure, goes missing in action.

After being discharged from the military, Royd is determined to find out the circumstances surrounding what happened to Karen. The investigation leads him to as he gets closer to understanding the plot that led to the tragedy and the forces that were behind it.

With hundreds of characters to encounter, its mature narrative as well as non-Manichean characters, Front Mission is the most popular of the strategic Japanese RPG, now accessible worldwide.
